About Built Heritage Jamaica

Built Heritage Jamaica is a non-governmental, non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and protection of Jamaica’s historical buildings, monuments, artifacts, and works of art.

Originally established as the Georgian Society of Jamaica in 1967, the organization’s initial mission focused solely on preserving Georgian heritage, which covered a specific type of building and artifact from the period around 1714–1837.

Over time, it became evident that other historical sites, buildings, and artifacts also required protection. In 2023, the organization expanded its scope to include all built heritage in Jamaica from any period, ensuring it is now part of its preservation efforts.

To reflect this broader mission, the organization was renamed Built Heritage Jamaica on 18 November 2023. Learn more about the history of the Georgian Society of Jamaica and Built Heritage Jamaica.
